I've got 34 years of experience working on the leading edge of technology.## What I Bring To The Table- A love of learning new things and working with new technologies, and the desire to master them, not just know enough to get by.- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to intensely focus and creatively think until a solution is found.- A breadth of experience and knowledge. I have experience with a wide range of topics, such as graphing databases, iOS apps, web frontends, web backends, relational databases, Unix, the Agile Methodology, hardware, Windows, Amazon Web Services, machine learning, CSS, restructuredText, Docker, Google Web Services, and MacOS to name a few. I've written code in many languages, such as Java, Objective C, SQL, JavaScript, C++, Python, Forth, Ruby, C, Assembly, Visual Basic, Rust, and Go, to name a few. I became proficient in some of these languages when I used them, but I'll admit that time both dulls the memory and matures a programming language. The takeaway here is that I can learn to write code in any language, and I will strive to master it. My current proficiency is in Python.- Excitement about designing, coding, and documenting APIs. I get a sense of accomplishment writing utility programs to eliminate friction from tasks. Though my opportunities have been small, I've had particular delight in writing code to embed in or interface with hardware.- Someone who will vigorously defend what is believed to be the correct way to do something... until someone else shows why their way is better. I want things to be the best they can be, whatever it takes to get there.- A love of collaborating with other happy, energetic people who want to create great quality work.- A belief that documentation is essential and an excellent ability to create it. I've had enough frustration in my life with terrible or nonexistent documentation; I don't want to be responsible for anyone feeling that way about my stuff.- Perfectionism and a desire for nit-picky, perfect pixels and squeaky clean code. But also restraint and knowing when to say, "Good enough." I understand the reality of shipping and have no problem cranking something out as fast as possible if that needs to happen. But if it's cool that I take another couple of days to polish and test, I'll take it!- A good attitude. After 10 hours of unsuccessful debugging, you won't find Grumpy Steve. I'll crack a joke, get some smiles, and dig back in. Hard work in a positive environment is good work.
