As luck would have it my move was made all the more easier when Melbourne based firm, Russell Kennedy Lawyers, announced they were opening a new Canberra office. This was an opportunity I could not miss. I began my work at Russell Kennedy Lawyers as a legal secretary, however due to the nature of my role it became clear that my workload sat outside the legal secretary umbrella and I was given the title, Office Coordinator. As the office coordinator it is my responsibility to oversee the day to day running of our office, which currently comprises 2 partners, 2 special counsels, a senior associate, lawyer and 3 administration staff (one being part time). My position combines a more traditional legal secretary role with as variety of other roles such as event coordination, marketing, business development, minor IT support and building coordination.

  • Bayside Secondary College
    Integration Aide
Bayside Secondary College Aug 2012 - Dec 2013
    Melbourne, Australia
I decided to take a break from working for a law firm and began to study to become an integration aide. During my studies I completed the practical element of the certificate and was employed at the school where I completed my prac. Whilst I was working as an integration aide my perception of disability and the needs of children with disabilities really changed. I went in to it fresh from study thinking I knew everything (as you do) and after conversations with immensely supportive members of the integration team, external education suppliers and other teachers I really began my education as to what is involved in ensuring these children receive the best care possible. Whilst I no longer work as an integration aide, inclusion for all is something that resonates deep within me.
