Steve Bauer has been involved with the sport of motocross/supercross for over 40 years and was a full time professional racer during the glory days of motocross in Southern California from 1972 to 1984. A consistent contender in the AMA 250 National Championship and Supercross Series from 1978 through 1980, Steve won the AMA 250cc Western Regional Motocross Championship in 1978. Over the course of his career, Bauer raced for factory Honda and Yamaha, and was a test rider for Kawasaki from 1978-84. As a member of the powerful DG Performance race team, he worked closely with engineers from KHI, Showa, KYB, Mugen, and others. He was a test rider for Cycle World Magazine from 1977-84, with numerous covers.With the advent of the Internet came new avenues of opportunity for the former racer to share some of the experience gathered over many years in the sport. A charter member of Motonews.com and Mototalk, Steve has never been shy about voicing his opinions when it comes to anything moto. In 1999, he was chosen by Supercross promoters, PACE Motorsports, as one of two official judges during their inaugural FMX series, a post he remained in for several years. He's been a Senior Writer for Transworld Motocross, and has written articles and covered races for Racer X, Cycle News and other publications. In 2004, Steve teamed with Scott Kandel to found Wonder Warthog Racing, a benevolent organization aimed at providing resources to the under-funded racers known as Privateers. The program garnered wide recognition and respect throughout the industry, earning the co-founders "Humanitarian of the Year" honors for 2004 from Supercross promoter, Clear Channel Entertainment. Bauer was again named "Humanitarian of the Year" in 2012 for his Big Air Kid's Fair at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital, an annual charity event he founded in 2003.
