I manage the engineering IT team at Xilinx Hyderabad. My team is responsible for providing the support to Xilinx Hyderabad engineering in the areas of Unix/windows server support, laptop/desktop support, network support, IP telephony, audio/video conferencing. I am also responsible for Xilinx Hyderabad data center operations. My team is a part of global engineering IT team that supports engineering organization across Xilinx.ResponsibilitiesManaging a team of system administrators carrying out support activities for Xilinx engineering teams at HyderabadIT planning, budgeting, project managementEvaluate new technologies and carry out “Proof of concept” projects to enhance the efficiency of Xilinx IT infrastructure and support.Work with vendors for procurements and carrying out project work. I headed of the IT group of Coware India managing a team of system and network administrators. At CoWare I managed the worldwide Server/Desktop/Network support activities. I was responsible for the entire IT infrastructure at CoWare India & Japan. I led various international projects and reported to Director IT. ResponsibilitiesIT planning, budgeting, procurements, monitoring and enhancements.Manage, train, motivate and mentor the system administration team.Define and implement various IT related procedures and practices. Work with project managers to understand and cater to their IT requirements.Ensure the maximum uptime for the critical Linux, Solaris and windows servers running nis, dns, nfs, cvs, sun grid, GNU software, Legato networker, trendmicro officescan servers and lots of EDA tools.Manage LAN/WAN Infrastructure comprising Cisco router, switches and Juniper Firewall, VPN.Manage desktop support activities and provide Level 3/4 support to the helpdesk team.Manage Telecom/VoIP infrastructure of CoWare India comprising Nortel and Shoretel equipment.Co-ordinate with h/w and s/w vendors and service providers. I was the single system administrator at Mentor Graphics NOIDA managing around 200 UNIX workstations and servers. The Profile included System Administration activities of the Company Based LAN to ensure 24X7availability of various servers and workstations. ResponsibilitiesInstallation, configuration & administration of UNIX (Solaris, Linux and hpux) Servers and workstations , Netapp File servers and other computer equipment.Administration of various services including NIS, NFS, automount, DHCP, DNS, NTP, Samba, LPD and cron.Performance monitoring and analysis of servers and workstations.Design and implement backup strategies using Veritas Netbackup and ufsdump/tar scripts. Daily activities include solving user problem, logs monitoring, disk space management.Automation of various re-occurring sys-admin jobs using shell scripts(C shell & perl ).Identify and deploy critical OS & security updates and patches. Network based insallation of various vendor software like mentor, cadence, Xilinx, altera, rational etc and desktop tools like mozilla, netscape, frame maker etc . Building open source, GNU software from source for different unix platforms. Software Licence management .Major Projects done at MentorSetup of Sun grid compute Farm, comprising sun and linux servers and desktops. Setup of jumpstart server for solaris installation. The scripts were incorporated to create profiles for all sun systems on jumpstart server. Automation of PC backup through scripting.

The responsibilities included systems' installation, network configuration & support ,the basic NIS/NFS Server/Client Configuration, DNS Primary/Secondary Server/Client configuration & Maintenance.The daily activities included user management, account creations, disk quota implementations, backup schedule, Planning and Implementation etc.The network monitoring of LAN, WAN and other network Products.Disk Management, Device Management, creating user profiles etc on Unix, Windiws and Novell NetWare systems. End user support in the areas of windows and unix administration.
