I worked part-time on digital health research at the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre https://www.digitalhealthcrc.com/. I was one of the authors of a series of reports to determine the extent of fragmentation of data among health service providers in the health system in Australia, its impact on health services, and proposing technology solutions to help accelerate health data research for providing better health services. See https://flyingblind.cmcrc.com/ for the reports – “Australian Consumers and Digital Health” and "Australian Researchers and Digital Health".I also participated in the development of a prototype for real-time access by medical providers to country wide prescription records for Schedule 8 medicines to prevent harmful use of such medicines. This has now become a statewide initiative (SafeScript) implemented in the state of Victoria, Australia.

I managed a range of technology based projects for the organisation. Recent projects/achievements:1) Developed IT strategic plan 2013-2017 for the organisation including a technology roadmap of projects for implementation. The plan was very highly commended by the Commission for its coverage, practicality and readability by a non-technical audience and provides the blueprint for all IT projects at the AEMC.2) Managed a number of key infrastructure and business systems projects including:- Re-development of the company web site www.aemc.gov.au to address changing stakeholder profile- Management of complete tender process including development of tender documents, evaluation of proposals, negotiating price and execution of agreement for Managed IT Services, Datacentre hosting services and Implementation/hosting of enterprise mobile devices- Development and implementation of enterprise mobile strategy with the objective of providing mobile access to corporate systems - Refresh of complete datacentre and head office network server and desktop infrastructure to cater to growing needs for the next 4 years- Development of strategy for a customer relationship management system- Development of strategy for knowledge management and Intranet 3) Negotiated and managed agreements with a range of IT service providers for Managed Services, hosting of server and network hardware/software, website development agency, and external consultants for developing and implementing mobility strategy and stakeholder management systems.

I had full delivery and budget responsibility for the Secure Unified Research Environment (SURE). SURE is a ground-breaking private cloud facility for health researchers. It enables researchers analyse large de-identified linked health data sets in a secure, high performance, private environment that can be accessed from anywhere. SURE is built using a range of technologies including Citrix Xenserver, HP SANs, Linux, Windows to deliver research work spaces with statistical analysis tools to researchers across Australia. My most significant achievement during this role: I led the team to design, develop and implement the NSW Pap Test Register (PTR). The PTR is a database of pathology reports for pap smears, with the objective of preventing cervical cancer through regular reminders and follow up. In 1998 this system won a medal from the Smithsonian Institute-Computerworld for its impact and potential for saving lives.
