I consider myself a "Third Wave Webster", skilled and experienced at crafting web sites and managing web hosts, since the mid-1990s. The "1st Wave" was handcrafting HTML code into websites. The "2nd Wave" was using web authoring software such as Frontpage or Dreamweaver. Now we are into the "3rd Wave", using primarily Open Source software and powerful Contemt Management Systems (CMS) such as Joomla, my favorite so far.

Reported to the Technical Services Manager, supervising the operation and development of the Network Services Division as well as Field Technicians and Call Centre staff. Worked with other managers on the Operations team to schedule and coordinate technical services to key SMB clients. Liaison with the Professional Services Division. Level 2 Technical Support contracted to a large Lower Mainland school district with 22 elementary and 6 secondary schools, encompassing 2,000+ PCs and MACs used by students, teachers and staff. Assigned to special projects in support of school technicians and systems analysts in the district education office. Working at the Systems Analysts level, also supervised 4 techs in the field. Work included Windows and Macintosh desktop support, 802.11b/g wireless setup and support, infrastructure network troubleshooting and documentation, Active Directory operation and end-user training.

Promoted and sold the Vision family of ad hoc business intelligence and analytic software. Duties included cold calling prospects and following up with a webinar on the product's features and benefits. Manned tradeshow sales booth.

Designed and managed major projects for the installation of Visitor Based Networks in hotels, including Internet services and Virtual Private Network (VPN) engineering. Surveyed, designed, and supervised installation projects for broadband Internet services and associated networking infrastructure (cabling, patch panels, switches. distribution) required in large Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs) such as condominiums and apartments. Supervised Tier-1 support for Internet-related problems, from various hotel guests and/or MDU subscribers, as well as Tier-2 support for hotel conferences requiring Virtual LAN (VLAN) and VPN engineering services. Worked with the sales team as technical liaison to negotiate broadband Internet Service Access Agreements with hotel management and strata councils.

Brought Internet technology to the desktop and workplace throughout the largest Canadian forest products company at that time before it was bought out by Weyerhauser. First webmaster for both corporate and wood product web sites. Designed and deployed the first Internet Explorer web browser used on 2000+ desktops throughout MB's North America operations. Taught Internet services workshops.

Supervised all computer systems and networks used for scientific and office services. Worked with internal and third party programmers to develop computer applications specific to the forest industry, including process measurement systems and artifical intelligence process control. Introduced Internet technology to the corporate group for business and public affairs.

Participated in mill trials and the lab to develop data acquisition and process measurement equipment to improve paper product production. Designed custom test equipment in the pulp and paper lab for determining pulp and paper quality. Designed, installed and managed the first computing facilities used in the research group for scientific, lab and office systems.

Taught Software Project Management skills to 4th year Computer Science undergraduates. Emphasized team development and communications through the use of a group project that required oral and written skills in a joint presentation at the end of the semester.This was taught evenings for the Spring semester while working full time during the day as an engineer for MacMillan Bloedel Research.
