A homeless veteran saved my life. In 2012 I returned home from Afghanistan after an 18 month deployment. Diagnosed with PTSD I survived the hard way for approximately 6 years. During that time I have the VA to thank for helping me navigate reasons to live. I will forever be thankful for their services. In 2018, a chance encounter put me face to face with a homeless US Army Infantry Veteran. He was preparing for bed by rolling out his wet sleeping bag onto the snowy concrete steps of a church in Manhattan. Long story short, I spent a few hours getting to know him, eating with him, and giving him a poncho and socks. Hours later, on the train ride home, I couldn’t forget how good that interaction made me feel. So good that stopped going to the VA to help me navigate reasons to live. This mission became my reason. Enlisted For Life Charities is not a one-way street. It is a mission that helps all parties involved.Our mission is three fold:1. We feed and cloth homeless Veterans throughout the northeast. And our reach is growing!2. When resources are available we help Veterans that are having a difficult time buying groceries, paying for utilities, filling their gas tank, getting a rides to the hospital, etc., etc. 3. We are currently planning to open our first barracks style facility to house 20-25 homeless Veterans. It is a 6-12 month program that will provide a safe atmosphere and counseling while they learn a trade through local companies.
