Directly after working as a Security Host for Merlin Entertainments, I have returned to my role with Knight Security Group as a Relief Security Officer. My retail security job currently does not have a designated team leader, so I find my self regularly filling this role while I am there. Along side the regular site duties I deal with daily job delegation and staff placement around the site. I also organise when staff members go for breaks and covering their positions while they are away. While working as a mobile response driver, I was responsible for every set of keys within the key holding sector of the company. My main duties were to lock and unlock certain buildings at certain times and patrol various sites both at certain times and random times. I also had to respond to intruder and fire alarm activations at client sites around the Surrey and Hampshire areas. My time in this department also had me working as a supervisor responding to calls for help from staff on static sites.I have enjoyed my time working with Knight Security Group. I have learnt a lot about communicating with clients, motivating a team and leadership principles.

After working with Knight Security Group for nearly 18 months, I have decided to take on a new challenge. While working at Thorpe Park I am responsible for searching guests bags and pockets looking for prohibited items (alcohol and drug paraphernalia) and illegal items (drugs and knives). However, the main purpose of the search operation is anti-terror (weapons and explosives). This search operation is a fantastic method for access control as well, as it allows us to control the pace at which members of the public enter the park. While not on bag search duty, I show a visible presence in and around the park, including back-of-house areas, shops and attraction queue lines. This visible presence helps to deter crime and to show the members of the public that we are there to help and assist. Key responsibilities for patrolling the park include a wide variety of tasks including;Assisting disabled guestsResponding to missing persons reportsInvestigating thefts from guests and staffAttending medical emergencies for crowd controlWatching for health and safety breachesResponding to violent/unruly guestsEjecting guests that breach the terms and conditions of entryEvery month the security department get involved with a staff social event wherein the staff have a chance to blow off steam and relax. These events still need to be covered by security, however it is more of a door supervisor role than during a regular shift. Meaning the main duties for these evenings are;Searching staff/guests bags and pockets for alcohol/drugsWatching for people drinking too muchIntervening if guests become argumentativeDuty of care for vulnerable guestsEjecting those that do not follow the rulesClearing the party area and exit way after the event has finishedMy time at Thorpe Park has been short but highly insightful. Within this job I was responsible for getting customers deliveries to their houses in a quick but safe fashion. This required the use of local area knowledge to know where the traffic would be built up so that I could navigate around it.While not on a delivery I was responsible for preparing the next days veritable. That required cutting onions, tomatoes etc. Opening tins of pizza sauce and pouring them into one serving bowl. It also required extensive use of date labelling. As a separate responsibility I was responsible for keeping the shops delivery motorbikes in safe working order and if something needed repairing I was in charge of organising the repair with a local mechanic. On a busy evening when we had lots of drivers in I was transferred to in store staff. I was then in charge of all of the delivery drivers. Because I knew the area so well I was in charge of sending groups of deliveries with individual drivers because each delivery is in the same direction.For closing shift I had to wash up the equipment in the sink, sweep the floor, mop the floor and move the motorbikes into the building to safe storage.

In this job I am responsible for the health, safety and security of football fans and guests while visiting Homepark football stadium. My job is to ensure the safe entry and exit of guests travelling through my entrance/exit. This requires the use of bag searching and occasionally body searching. While searching I am looking for prohibited items (alcohol and drinks cans) and illegal items (weapons and drugs). Once the spectators have been safely brought into the stadium my responsibility is to watch the crowd for surges and other crowd movements. These movements could be due to anything from a fire to angry guests reacting to a referee decision within the game. Ten minutes before the end of the game I am required to move to a pitch side position with the other Customer Care Agents to ensure that none of the guests are able to invade the pitch, cause damage themselves, others or the players and match officials. At the end of the game I had to assist people on exiting the ground in a safe orderly fashion and to clear the ground of forgotten bags and to ensure there are no more guests inside before the gates are locked.
