  • Quality Vision International, Inc.
    Systems Software Manager
Quality Vision International, Inc. Jan 2005 - Dec 2015
I have held this position for most of the time between April of 2001 and present. I took a short leave of absence during my time at RealVoice. This is more of a technical management position and although it includes managing several engineers working on multiple software products, I also am responsible for doing some of the work myself. The Systems Software Group at Quality Vision International is responsible for the code that runs on the machine. This is embedded code that runs on a DSP. We are also responsible for the code to communicate to that board and the code that runs on the PC to take all the information acquired from all the sensors and correct, filter, and compensate the data so it is usable for the client. The systems group integrates multiple sensors, including touch probes, cameras, lasers, and other types. Most of the code is written in C++. Some code is written in C#. Much of the work to prove a sensor is working or to calibrate it requires applied math, statistics and science.

Initially I was hired to maintain and enhance their messaging platform designed to leave messages on answering machines and voicemail. Evolved the system over years to handle new features and scale from 24 analog lines to thousands of digital lines. As the only software developer in the company, I was responsible for new features, upgrades, and keeping the system running and backwards compatible and running at all times. Eventually the system integrated into CRM system and Accounting system to partially automate billing, receivables, and reporting. The system was built on Windows Server 2000 and Visual Basic and SQL Server.
  • Re:Member
    Software Engineer
    Re:Member Aug 2000 - Apr 2001
Technical lead in the Essential Technologies Group on a new version of their software. This software was banking technology - a back end for banks and credit unions. Several different technologies were used to create similar software systems. Initially, it was C++, then we moved to Java, and then C#. They were using the RUP process at the time and we had groups for UI, Business logic, database, requirements, test and worked in iterations in a somewhat agile process. Code was modeled and then integrated/coded for detail and round-tripped with the model. The software architects could modify the model and move around the detailed code. Unit testing and verification of meeting requirements was very important. My contributions were mainly in technical details in the implementation code across all languages and in the integration and development of tests that verified the same code met requirements.
  • Optical Gaging Products, Inc.
    Software Engineer
Optical Gaging Products, Inc. Apr 1998 - Aug 2000
OGP is now named Quality Vision International. During my first 2.5 years, I was initially hired as a test engineer writing code to verify that code met requirements. OGP makes code that runs their machine and verifies that items meet dimensional metrology specifications. This includes embedded software, communication code, sensor integration, data acquisition, and the integration of information into useful data for the customer. The codebase is very scientific in nature. As a test engineer I integrated visual basic tests into the code and automated some tests. In addition I verified manually that code met specifications. After some time I was promoted to work on the software. Initially, this included mostly small bugs and working with engineers. Eventually, I got to work on some new sensor integration and modeling some communications. The model did prove some issues were in the communications and the fix to the model worked to fix the embedded software.
  • Ivr, Inc
    Lead Software Engineer
    Ivr, Inc May 1995 - Apr 1998
IVR built and hosted Interactive Voice Response applications written mostly in Visual Basic. Initially I was one of 3 developers hired as a co-op for the company but eventually I was the only one retained. Build and evolved a messaging platform for all of IVR's applications that allowed the company to grow into whatever niche market they wanted.
