About Sean Olive

Senior Fellow, Acoustic ResearchSpecialties: Expertise in scientific research related to perception and measurement of sound quality in audio recording and reproduction systems including microphones, loudspeakers, headphones, amplifiers, listening rooms, automotive audio systems, and binaural and spatial audio algorithms. Sean directs the Corporate R&D Acoustics Group providing research and leadership in improving the sound quality and benchmarking of Harman's consumer, professional and automotive audio systems. Prior to joining Harman, Sean was a scientist at the Acoustics and Signal Processing group at the National Research Council of Canada, where he worked alongside Dr. Floyd Toole. Sean is past President of the Audio Engineering Society.Dr. Olive has authored/ co-authored over 50 research papers and 3 book chapters for which he received several awards including the AES Fellowship. Sean is a regular invited speaker and chair for international scientific conferences, industry events, and universities, and he serves as an expert audio spokesperson for internal and external customers. He is a technical reviewer for the the Acoustical Society of America and the Audio Engineering Society, and has served as external examiner/advisor for several doctoral dissertations related to audio at universities around the world. An avid educator, Sean has taught audio courses at McGill, UCLA , CEDIA, and Harman University. He is the current co-chair of the AES Technical Committee on the Perception and Evaluation of Audio Signals, and a member of AES Technical Committees on Spatial Audio, Loudspeakers, Headphones and Automotive Audio.
