I am a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Biology BS, a Physiology and Neurobiology concentration, and a minor in Psychology, with a passion for helping people. My first laboratory experience was through my internship at LabCorp’s Center for Molecular Biology and Pathology, where I performed various gel electrophoresis assays alongside trained professionals. During my undergraduate career, I participated in two research projects, both focusing on neurobiology. The first focused on treatments for neurological injuries and diseases through cell transplants or neural prosthetics. The second focused on expression of the Kisspeptin1 protein in the brain in correlation with potential anxiety and stress-related behavior differences between male and female T. bifasciatum. These research experiences, along with my pursuit of a minor in biotechnology have allowed me to gain exposure to a variety of lab techniques.I also have experience working in both hospitals and out-patient clinics. I volunteered in the Medical/Surgical ICU at Rex Hospital, where I assisted physicians and nurses to provide excellent care to patients that exceeded their expectations. I also spent time as a medical scribe at an outpatient Cardiology clinic, where I was responsible for recording all patient information in their chart and checking its accuracy to ensure proper reimbursement to the clinic for billing. I have a passion for learning and imparting what I have learned onto others. I have taught swim lessons for children of all ages since April 2012. I used to swim competitively, and now teaching lessons are an outlet for me to share my knowledge to those I teach to empower them to become stronger swimmers. I plan to further this desire for learning and sharing of information throughout my post-graduate life.
