All marketing efforts are contingent upon a strong connection to your target user base and their stakeholders; you need to get out of the building first and speak with them. Throughout my time as Head of Product Marketing, I stood up a customer interview program to make those connections and learn from these experts, reaching over 25 individuals in under two months. With these insights, I generated a go-to-market plan to target a new entry into the R&D IT industry and collaborated with our Head of Customer Success to develop a training program for new users.

Placing your current customers at the heart of everything you do, from developing strategy to closing new deals, can catapult your team's effectiveness within the market. As a Customer Marketing Manager, I developed a new program references program, Customer AMAs ("Ask Me Anything"), which provided current customers a stage to advocate for Benchling with prospects and a casual venue to learn from each other. Within three months of launch, this program helped influence over $1MM of recurring revenue and identified over 5 net new customer champions for further co-marketing activities.

I facilitate this dialogue by managing our Customer Advisory Board, overseeing customer co-marketing opportunities, and growing our customer analytics and business intelligence programs to support Go To Market, Solution Marketing, and Competitive Intelligence groups.

Effective marketing for scientific products requires connecting the scientific- and business-oriented sides of the organization. As the Technical Marketing Manager, I help provide that connection and work to establish BIOVIA as a leader in the sciences. I oversee the scientific positioning and strategy for the BIOVIA R&D portfolio, which covers biologic and materials modeling and simulation, machine learning, and data science. Throughout this period I generated over 100 unique pieces of marketing collateral, published thought leadership pieces in leading industry journals, and spoke at both domestic and international conferences and webinars. I also seek out and recruit leaders in academia and industry to demonstrate how our capabilities fundamentally transform how science can be done.

Developing solutions for the developing world tends to flip conventional design approaches on their head. These solutions must be easy to use, inexpensive to manufacture, and safe to dispose. I led a research team which designed environmentally friendly low cost medical tests to combat child malnutrition in developing countries. My approach, an iron oxide nanoparticle which can be made at room temperature in a cup from nontoxic ingredients, helps prevent the leaching of potentially toxic substances into the environment after disposal. This not only ensures that individuals in need receive the healthcare they deserve, it also minimizes the impact on the local environment.Our publication was accepted for publication in PLoS ONE in June 2017.
