Presently, most qualifications in vocational education in the… Show more TitleThe efficiency and effectiveness of multimedia-based performance assessment in vocational educationProject SummaryThe current PhD research focuses on the efficiency and effectiveness of the use of multimedia as a new way of performance assessment in the Dutch VET system. Traditional authentic performance assessment may require students to fulfill assignments for several hours, up to multiple days or more. Presently, most qualifications in vocational education in the Netherlands rely heavily on authentic performance assessment, either as a simulation or as assessment in the workplace. However, the use of multimedia and computers in performance assessment may result in more efficient and effective use of performance assessment, even in vocational education. New innovations in computer-based assessment (CBA) have shifted the use of computers in testing from administering rather one-dimensional multiple choice tests toward a multimedia influenced multiple dimension model of assessment. For example, now it is possible to incorporate video, simulations, and virtual environments in assessment. However, the use of these new innovative multimedia types of (performance) assessment have not been widely researched, especially there is a large void in research on the use of multimedia in performance assessment in vocational education. In my PhD project I will try to investigate if and how multimedia can efficiently and effectively be integrated in performance assessment in vocational education. During the next four years I will focus on five different research topics.The project is financed by and largely carried out at eX:plain.
