At ProDemos we strive to engage Dutch (high school) students in thinking about politics by having them experience different aspects of living in a democracy and under the rule of law. We do so by providing a full day programme with all kind of fun and engaging educational elements and reflective experiences. The highlight of the day is a visit to the Dutch houses of parliament at the Binnenhof, where our students can literally see the legislatieve process unfold before their eyes. There I provide the students with a politically and historically oriented guided tour.

I worked as an intern at the Clingendael Institute, an independent think tank and academy, focusing on research and education in the field of diplomacy and international relations. My job as an intern was to assist several (senior) training and research fellows in the design, implementation and coordination of professional training courses for international groups of junior, mid career and senior diplomats. The courses are on a wide variety of topics, ranging from international security, diplomatic practice and capacity building to presentation, mediation and negotiations skills.

At the West Wing Think Tank I contributed to a policy advice for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Sustainable Economic Development Department (DDE) and the Social Development Department (DSO) of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs posed an elaborate question to our research group on 'the future of work' and the changing nature of employment in the world and on how Dutch instruments of foreign trade and development cooperation can anticipate these changes in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to this, the final editing and general communication with the West Wing board fell under my responsibility. I am very pleased to announce that our policy advice was chosen as the best one submitted to the ministry. The eventual policy advice can be found under my publications on this page.

Within my position of consultant at the Research Project Maastricht I was responsible for the acquisition and final execution of contractual, company specific, research. Next to this I was also engaged with the different research designs that were eventually conducted in India. The Research Project Maastricht team consists of 12 carefully selected students in an advanced stage of their studies. After 10 months of preparation and training the team conducted research in India for another 4 months. Upon return, our findings were presented to the participating companies. The project I worked on mostly in its research design and execution, was an evidence based policy evaluation for the Gujarat Maritime Board, an Indian maritime gouvernement organisation, commissioned by and in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam.
