Cardiff Bid Ambassador

Cardiff, United Kingdom

The Cardiff Business Improvement District is funded by businesses within the city centre with the aim of making the area a more welcoming and vibrant place to visit and to work. The 'Street Ambassadors' are one of the initiatives funded by the B.I.D, to be the uniformed face of the B.I.D acting as an aid to the public and a liason to businesses. My role as a street ambassador required that I perform patrols around 130 streets in the city centre in order to complete various tasks such as meeting with businesses to discuss any issues or problems they may be having, responding to calls on the 'store net' crime prevention radio network and reporting various problems to relevent authorities e.g. vandalism or damage, litter or crime. While walking on patrol I was available to help any member of the public with any query they have.

General Store Manager

Cardiff

As a manager for Tesco Express I acted in a supervisory position over a team of about 15 staff. As well as overseeing the day to day running of the shop and the duties which that entails, such as cash handling, managing deliveries and stock replenishment it was also my responsibility to coach and develop the staff on my team to excel at their work.Using various multi-format methods such as online training, demonstration, shoulder-to-shoulder coaching, assessment and review I was able to ensure that all the staff have the correct knowledge and legal training to do their jobs. I was then required to maintain both manual and digital records for every employee to log when training is complete, when it expires and when further training was needed.I was also frequently called to resolve complaints and disputes from staff and from customers and have attended numerous company training modules such as 'conflict resolution' which have helped me hone the skills I need to do so.I produced reports and statistics based on the shops performance for managerial review and also made use of this information to alter sales strategies. An example of this is when I analysed daily sales and customer throughput figures and used this information to effectively budget and plan the weeks overtime rota. All of my duties demanded that I was able to adapt and prioritise whilst making decisions in a busy and demanding environment.

Project Manager

Penarth, Vale Of Glamorgan, United Kingdom

I was responsible for I.T issues such as setting up, maintaining and troubleshooting any new software or equipment, I also maintained the company website and Facebook account. From the office I also kept records and customer files, organised jobs for workers and filters, negotiated with suppliers, issued invoices and processed payments as well as as maintained the company accounts using 'Quick Books' software. The office was housed in the company showroom so when I was working there I also greeted prospective customers and conducted short tours and sales demonstrations. This required that I quickly became familiar with a great deal of products, prices and design trends in order to effectively answer inquiries. When a sale was made and a design completed my role became that of a project manager. I would supervise and co-ordinate the project from the design to the finished product. This involved checking plans, ordering parts, costing and producing quotes, accepting and recording deliveries, liaising with outside contractors such as builders and electricians and organising their work schedules. This demanded that I visit sites to oversee the completion of work, help with hands on fitting work and solving any unforeseen problems that may arise. This required good organisational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to make decisions under high pressure and short timescales.
