Sophie Black is a journalist, broadcaster, writer and editor in chief of Crikey. Sophie has worked in senior management across cultural and media organisations throughout her career to conceive, curate, launch and oversee numerous publications, editorial projects and programs. As the Wheeler Centre’s head of publishing she oversaw projects such as the Walkley award winning The Messenger podcast, mentoring scheme The Next Chapter and podcast incubation program Signal Boost. As editor-in-chief at Private Media she headed up titles such as Crikey, SmartCompany and Women’s Agenda and previous to that she was the editor of Crikey. She directed the Adelaide Festival of Ideas, sits on the board of Melbourne University’s Centre for Advancing Journalism, and is co-chair of human rights media outlet Right Now.Sophie has written features, essays and opinion for outlets such as The Guardian, The Monthly and Inside Story. She has regularly appeared across ABC local radio and television and Melbourne's Triple R. She has appeared on Sunrise, The Project, The Today Show, the ABC's Book Club, News Breakfast and The Drum, including as guest host. She has MCed and anchored and appeared on panels for Sydney Writers Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival, Pause Fest, The Wheeler Centre, the Adelaide Festival of Ideas, the Walkley Foundation, Amnesty, Next Wave, Clemenger BBDO and many more festivals and events.She has contributed as a judge for, among others, the Walkleys, the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards and the Wheeler Centre's So You Think You Can Pod.
