Profile bio

About Seika Brown

My name is Seika Brown and I am an advocate and global researcher for mental health and the founder of YLG Research – an initiative that aims to discover how mental health is defined across different cultures. I’m interested in understanding the cultural influences that affect mental health to ensure proper preventative care. I’m particularly interested in increasing the availability of youth leadership interventions, training, and professional development across the world, and have conducted multiple remote webinars providing basic mental health education. I strive to be authentic in everything I do and it is the core value that drives my passion in mental health. At 15 years old I founded a mental health policy non-profit organization where my team and I lobbied, conducted research, and testified for two bills, passing one in 2019 (WA State House Bill 1216). Since then, I disbanded the non-profit and began assisting other youth mental health programs, interventions, councils, and research. Most notably I have worked with the Karolinska Institute as a youth collaborator, and citiesRISE as a youth consultant and researcher to programs and engagement. Over the years, I have maintained a positive relationship with representatives from UNICEF, The WHO, Mental Health America, Mental Health Europe, The National Alliance on Mental Illness, and many other local, national, and global institutions. In the past few years, I have been awarded for my work in mental health from The Gates Foundation Discovery Center, Mental Health America, Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez, and The Conversationalist.Currently, I am a Master in Public Health Candidate at Tufts University School of Medicine, with a concentration in Population Health Promotion. I recently graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Studies and a minor in Anthropology. Despite all this time, the reason why I do mental health work hasn’t changed: to advocate for the mental health of my friends, family, and peers through authentic intergenerational relationships.

Listed skills include Leadership, Writing, Team Building, Activism, and 23 others.
