Conversations around mental health have exponentially increased since COVID. Now, countries all across the world are discussing mental health, creating a fragmented field of NGOs, research, social media campaigns, and policymakers. We now know that mental health is something people experience all across the world, but what influences that experience? How do culture, personhood, identity, religion, age, etc affect our perspective on mental health and how do these things affect our approach to mental health care? Are modern-day solutions effective everywhere? And what actually affects people's mental health? YLG Research aims to answer these questions through a storytelling approach to research. Our goal is not to add another solution to a pool of solutions, rather YLG aims to listen first. Research often stays within the realm of the researcher, hardly ever breaking out of the invisible line between science and everyday life. Our goal is to conduct real research and then share it with multiple stakeholders from an institutional and non-profit level all the way to a social media and accessible level. To reach this goal, founder Seika Brown has been conducting a multitude of ethnographic interviews with people from different countries such as Malaysia, Tanzania, Sweden, Japan, and more. These interviews are shared both via Spotify and YouTube and also shared with research institutions and non-profits. YLG (Youth Lead Global) Research is an independent research initiative that aims to discover how mental health is defined across the world.
