CurrentI am honored to serve as Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Not One More Alabama, a 501c3 non-profit that was founded in 2016 by a group of individuals who were impacted personally and/or professionally by the disease of addiction. Decades of incarceration, shame, detachment and harsh interventions for those suffering with substance use disorders have failed, while the stigma and shame associated with addiction have prevented families from seeking help. Addiction grows in isolation. Journalist Johann Hari said it best when he referred to the study Rat Park: "The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it's connection." Our mission is to erase the stigma associated with addiction and mental illness, support those impacted, provide community education and connect individuals to resources and each other. NOMA recently launched a Capital Campaign to raise funds for a Community Recovery Center which will be located in the heart of Huntsville. A generous donation of the former Monarch Bowling Lanes has made this dream a reality to provide a safe, sober place for our recovery community.
