About Samantha Eden Oakey

Art is part of my commitment to pleasure.I value pleasure, sensuality, sexuality, ecstasy, creativity, curiosity, and liberating oneself from thoughts and beliefs that do not promote these values. I hope that my art inspires you in your own pleasure and liberation journey! The years my family spent unemployed and living in others' homes have been the root of my early work's exploration of my identity. I did this through a sense of creating my own safe place and "home", as well as exploring change's cycles of creation, entropy, and destruction.I have also begun deconstructing the religious Christian duality programming I grew up in. In my recent work, I explore my reverence for nature, as well as expressions of my own sovereign spirituality. Whereas earlier I had learned to create my safe place, now I'm in the practice of protecting it.☉♉︎ ☽♋︎ ↑♏︎

I set an example for kids in every aspect of my role - from preparation to follow-up outside of class. Show less

I plan monthly recurring programs for families and kids of all ages, including tours for babies and their caregivers, 3-to-5-year-olds, and an internship-style teen program. As a Teaching Artist, I offer site-based activities in different areas of the museum, including public Second Saturdays, and reservation-based Art Storytime. I have also worked as a team member for an outreach program called PAMM Storytime at United Way, meeting at the campus on 3250 SW 3 Ave every Wednesday for the 2019-2020 school year.A lesser-known part of my job includes constant refreshing of my skills, learning and testing out new techniques for behavior management, and ongoing research into PAMM’s current and future exhibitions. I have participated in several All Kids Included workshops, learning about universal design, adaptive methods for engaging all types of differently-abled students on tours, and how to communicate with all kids according to their specific needs. Every few months, I am also shadowed by colleagues and managers as I give a school tour, in order to receive feedback. Finally, I consider all my reading, researching, and ongoing art practice as an education for myself as an individual and a community leader. The more I nourish my mind and look for novel approaches to art and contemporary interpretations of it, the more equipped I am to relay this to students on tours. Show less
