He managed to perfectly balance the contradictory demands for pragmatism and architectural purity, consistently delivering to immovable deadlines (no-one thanks you for technology delivered the day after a race). Serge successfully engaged with Senior Stakeholders across the Team. This included many colourful and driven individuals, but they all recognised and warmed to his determination to do the right thing, but also deliver when required. He enabled them to understand the value that Enterprise Architecture brought to the Team. In particular, his insistence on maintaining the principles which underpin the new car set-up tool will make it invaluable for many seasons to come. He drives himself hard, but carries all those around with him. He can lead from the front, or perform a mentoring role.
