About Sergio Aldrete-Espejo
A first-generation college student from El Paso, Texas, seeking to break through career barriers and empower my community by being a mentor, contributor, and role model to my fellow first-generation classmates and colleagues. My professional passions are entrepreneurship, supply chain management, and the tech industry. Before embarking on my academic journey in 2019, I spent my young adult life pursuing entrepreneurial inspirations. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I carved my own path as a self-made entrepreneur fresh out of high school. In high school, I learned how to build websites, do graphic, photo, & video design, and I learned how to shoot film and photography professionally. Using those creative skills, I became a freelance marketer in 2013 and dropped out of college. After a year of freelance marketing, I put my marketing skills to use towards my family's restaurant. Another year passed and I decided to open my own restaurant business; a Mexican dessert shop in two shopping malls, four food trucks, and multiple concession stands at various venues across the city. As fun and profitable as it was to sell hotdogs, churros, aguas frescas, funnel cakes, and kettle corn, the physical stress was too much and I decided to pivot to a new career by going back to school. In 2019, I enrolled at the University of Texas at El Paso majoring in business administration with a concentration in operations and supply chain management. I promised myself that this time around I'd give school my best effort and do everything that I must to succeed. I started a farmers market and food truck park business as a sophomore during Covid-19 which generated a 6-figure income part-time. I also helped my family's business by developing a website that allowed their business to continue generating revenue online, tripling the bottom line of the family business. I became an officer and president of various organizations on campus such as the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, the Association of Supply Chain Management, and the American Society for Quality, all while being a full-time student with a 3.7 GPA.In 2022 I had the honor of interning at Microsoft as one of only five Microsoft Devices Supply Chain Planner Interns. I took on a challenging project that enabled supply chain visibility and optimized data management processes for stakeholder teams worldwide. I've used this experience to provide mentorship to supply chain students at my university in hopes that they too have the skillsets necessary to take on the supply chain challenges of tomorrow.
