About Sergio Soares

Sergio holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Pernambuco in 2004. He is an Associate Professor and Vice-Director at Informatics Center / Federal University of Pernambuco Center (CIn/UFPE), one of the top-5 Computer Science Departments in Brazil. From Feb-2020 to Jul-2020 Sergio was a Visiting Researcher at the MIT Industrial Performance Center, researching how to increase manufacturing firms' productivity through Digitalization. He has experience in coordinating research, development, and innovation projects funded by SENAI, CNPq, FACEPE, FINEP, Petrobras, Information Technology Law, and directly by firms. Sergio is the Executive Coordinator of INES - Science and Technology National Institute for Software Engineering and was Enterprise Relationship Director at the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) from 2015 to 2017. He was Director at SENAI Innovation Institute for Information and Communication Technologies (ISI-TICs) from 2013 to 2020, being responsible to design the institute from scratch, also being Chairman of SENAI's Industry + Advanced Market Alliance, responsible for dealing with challenges associated with Industry 4.0, Advanced Manufacturing, IoT, and Digitalization of manufacturing firms 2018-2020.Doutor em Ciência da Computação pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco em 2004. Atualmente é Professor Associado e Vice-Diretor do Centro de Informática da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (CIn/UFPE), um dos cinco melhores departamentos de Computação do país. De Fevereiro/2020 a Julho/2020 foi Pesquisador Visitante no MIT Industrial Performance Center. Tem experiência na coordenação de projetos de desenvolvimento, pesquisa e inovação financiados por SENAI, CNPq, FACEPE, FINEP, Petrobras, Lei de Informática e pela indústria. É coordenador executivo do INES - Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia para Engenharia de Software. Sérgio foi Diretor do Instituto SENAI de Inovação para Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (ISI-TICs) de Julho/2013 a Janeiro/2020 onde liderou criação do instituto e sua inserção no ecossistema de inovação brasileiro, chegando a liderar a Aliança de Mercado Industria + Avançada do SENAI para a Indústria Brasileira, responsável por lidar com desafios associados à Industria 4.0, Manufatura Avançada, IoT e Digitalização.
