To experience Optumas is to experience a truly flat company, where each person is as highly regarded as the next. The ability to grow and learn is only limited by your own capability, which tends to change rapidly. As an Actuarial Analyst, I have had the opportunity to lead or support the data manipulation, analysis, and client presentation for multiple unique projects, including: physical health, behavioral health, long-term care and commercial rate setting; 1115 waiver and 1915(c) waiver development; and biennial budget projections for one of the largest Medicaid programs in the U.S. With each project comes the ability to provide valuable knowledge and insight, not only to each of the clients I speak with, but to the people I work with as coworkers and friends.

The Actuarial Intern position at Optumas involved providing data manipulation and analysis across multiple client-related projects, while also finishing my Mathematics degree at Arizona State University. These projects included physician capitation development, health plan risk-adjustment related to pharmacy and injectable experience, Cost Probability Distribution (CPD) model creation, and comprehensive managed care rate development across all populations and services. Also included in my responsibilities as an intern was to ensure cold beer was always available in the refrigerator, and I received excellent marks in this area as well as in the growth of my analytical abilities.
