I'm Seth, I'm a Toronto-based Construction and Film Production professional, as well as a student. I'm currently enrolled at George Brown College's T176 "Construction Technique" program as a precursor to apprenticing in a skilled trade. My intention is to some day become Red Seal certified and teach new tradespersons in some capacity. Following the COVID-19 lockdown, a successful season as a Construction Production Assistant on Gut Job Season 2, where I was essentially a Junior Carpenter and Demolition Labourer, inspired me to change careers. After a decade in film and hospitalities, I decided to begin transitioning in earnest to construction and the skilled trades in 2023. The Construction PA position exposed me readily to Power Tools, Jobsite Safety, Working-at-Heights, identifying and using the correct materials for specific construction and Renovation work, and gave me valuable experience working as one trade among many in a high-traffic job site. Combined with my existing skills in Truck Driving, Rigging, Scaffolding, and Collaborative Problem-Solving, I have found the move to the trades smooth and invigorating. The Construction Technique program at George Brown to be tremendously engaging. The opportunity to learn skills like Millwrights, Residential Electrical Wiring, or Refrigeration, which are so difficult to acquire without a serious commitment like an apprentice, has been incredibly stimulating. I feel spoiled for choice in the world before me, though I'm leaning strongly towards Plumbing.
