I have a PhD in Biochemistry and molecular biology with backgrounds in protein purification, microbiology, automation and structural biology. My doctoral dissertation work focused on understanding the regulatory role of the Epsilon subunit in bacterial F-type ATP synthase. My research showed that perturbing the native interactions of the epsilon subunit within the enzyme causes drastic reduction in bacterial growth and this can be used to design novel antibiotics. My postdoctoral work focused on understanding the central carbon metabolism of M. tuberculosis. I used a high throughput method to search for compounds that inhibited the growth of Mtb with the goal of finding novel anti-tuberculosis drugs. I screened 300,000 compounds with PE Janus and obtained more than 20 high potency compounds that are currently under pre-clinical studies. My second postdoctoral work focused on using cryo-electron microscopy to understand the structure of ATP synthase of a T. brucei.Currently, I am working at Paraza Pharma as a senior scientist with focus on enzymatic assays, protein purification, automation and drug screening. At Paraza, I have simultaneously managed multiple projects involving protein purification and biophysical techniques such as SPR, MST and DSF as well as cellular assays. I have also screened another 250,000 compound library in a radioisotope displacement assay with Bravo robot. In addition, I have used technologies like AlphaScreen and HTRF to advance protein-protein interaction projects and screen small molecules. Moreover, I am in-charge of automation where, in addition to managing a small-molecule library and instruments like Bravo, Tecan, multidrop, Echo and Mantis, I also help my colleagues in automating their assays.
