In a nutshell, passion and diligence are two traits that I believe reflect me as an individual. I enjoy using my skills to generate new ideas and devise feasible solutions to briefly address relevant problems in translational research. Research with first-hand implication on public health had always been pre-eminent for me. I had received 2 prestigious International fellowships to study in USA and Portugal. I have worked with Prof. Oliver Smithies (Nobel laureate for Medicine-2007) for 6 months at University of North Carolina, Chapel-Hill, USA. My research goals were more focused towards genetically engineered mouse models to investigate the role of blood pressure and diabetes regulating genes in metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases using gold nanoparticles. I got another scholarship as a master mobility student for dissertation at FEUP, Universidade Do Porto, Portugal for 10 months under Erasmus Mundus Euphrates scholarship programme with Dr. M Simões. I have Co-founded a company called “InkRUDS Biotech”. and also received many national recognitions in India. I am a double doctorate in the field of Medicine and Biochemistry from Karolinska Institutet and Maastricht University under INTRICARE-Marie Curie Project from European Commission. Received several awards and recognition during my PhD in the field of Clinical Immunology, Vaccine development and Innovation. Inflanova AB is the recent venture co-founded by me and Prof. Johan Frostegård, focusing on development of Vaccines for Chronic inflammatory Diseases.

Doctoral CandidateKarolinska Institutet Jul 2017 - Jun 2022Stockholm, Stockholm County, SwedenTo understand the immune system which plays an important role in cardiovascular disease (CVD) and atherosclerosis, where activated immune competent cells producing cytokines are abundant for example, active and passive immunisation can influence the degree of atherosclerosis in animal experiments, but no treatment developed to specifically ameliorate inflammation is presently available. The cause of the chronic inflammation and immune activation in atherosclerosis has not been fully defined, and there are different, non-mutually exclusive and potentially synergistic possibilities including oxidised (ox) LDL and derivatives and also dead cells. Atherosclerosis in itself is in general not enough for development of CVD; rupture or erosion of atherosclerotic plaques is of major importance. To identify factors that promote plaque rupture or erosion is thus one of the major challenges of today within CVD research. We demonstrated that oxLDL can activate major immune competent cells in atherosclerosis, including B-cells T-cells, monocytes/macrophages and endothelial cells and that the phospholipid moiety (pro-inflammatory phospholipids like lysoPC; and platelet activating factor (PAF)-like phospholipids with phosphorylcholine (PC) as the main epitope) in oxLDL causes pro-inflammatory effects and immune activation (including IFN-gamma induction). -

Doctoral CandidateUniversiteit Maastricht Jul 2017 - May 2022NetherlandsTo understand the role of Extracellular vesicles (EVs), which are considered major players in promoting macrophage (MO) and VSMC-mediated calcification in vitro and in vivo. EVs can be produced by living cells (micro- and matrix vesicles, exosomes) and dying cells (apoptotic bodies) and are present in calcified arteries of CKD patients. VSMC can generate EVs in vitro that differ in composition and calcifying properties depending on environmental factors such as Ca2+ and phosphate, and phenotype. VSMC normally produce EVs that contain inhibitors of calcification such as carboxylated-MGP and Fetuin-A.Elevated Ca2+ and phosphate, inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species can cause phenotypic switching and a shift of production towards EVs lacking inhibitors and exposing pro-calcifying phosphatidylserine (PS) and annexin A5. Little is known about other lipid moieties of EVs and their role in VC, e.g. phosphorylcholine (PC) and malone dialdehyde (MDA) although both are implicated in atherosclerosis. I will design novel EV-targeting compounds for imaging and treatment of VC. -
