During my time at Exxel Outdoors, I progressed from a mid-level Designer to the Senior Product Designer at Kelty, and later, assumed the role of Industrial Design Manager, overseeing all brands. My extended experience has given me a wide breadth of both brand and product knowledge, with specialization in technical equipment, CMF design, and creative direction.Brands- Led design projects for several major brands including Kelty, Ultimate Direction, Sierra Designs, Hex, Slumberjack, X2O, and dozens of private label brands.Industry Knowledge- Utilized intimate understanding of diverse manufacturing capabilities, development timelines, retail channels, market positioning, and consumer behaviors.Product Categories- Designed and developed products in dozens of categories including hiking, skiing, backpacking, running, and travel packs, in addition to running vests, sleeping bags, tents, shades, furniture, apparel, accessories, waders, live vests, and youth products.Design Thinking- My design process includes: researching, competitive analysis, brainstorming, iterative ideation, sketching, rapid prototyping, building, patterning, sewing, technical drawing, CAD, spec pack creation, color analysis, product development, and collaboration with marketing.Trend Forecasting- Synthesized complex data into cohesive and clear stories in order to to distill the information into relevant, actionable product strategies.Management- Oversaw the projects of five designers. Through these endeavors, I continuously honed my skills as a designer and contributed to Kelty's reputation for excellence and innovation in outdoor gear.Award Winning Designs- Brought several award winning products to market including the Asher 55L packs designed for novice backpackers and the Glendale Pack collection which utilizes a unique proprietary suspension system.Human Factors- Rejuvenated Kelty’s pack collection by resetting our “good, better, best” product offering. Utilized my deep comprehension of ergonomics, human factors, and the intricate construction of technical hiking packs in order to develop a new multi-tiered human-centric solution.Spec Pack Creation- Generated technical drawings and specifications for manufacturers, including dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements.Mentoring- Played a crucial role in mentoring fellow designers, guiding them through various projects and design challenges. As Senior Product Designer of Exxel's Mass Camp division, I focused on design thinking practices for our in-house and private label brands.Material Management- Organized lab dip approvals, managed trims, materials, and BOMs for each development sample. Financial Growth- Spearheaded the design of a comprehensive collection of Slumberjack products that launched in 2020. This endeavor not only increased brand visibility but also generated substantial interest and growth of over $20 million. Supported the creation of a new Sierra Designs collection, which contributed significantly to our brand's expansion, customer appeal, and over $16 million in revenue.

I worked as a industrial product designer with American Recreation Products until they were purchased by Exxel Outdoors in 2015, at which time I shifted from the mass camp team to design and project management for much of the youth camp business.Color Trend Forecasting- Guided trend research and analysis methodologies. Assumed full control of all WGSN analysis and presentation tasks for the company within the first year. Those responsibilities continued throughout my tenure at Exxel Outdoors.Youth Products, youth licensing- Researched, designed, and developed a variety of youth products for both licensed and in-house brands. Worked closely with licensors such as Disney, Marvel, Lucas, Universal, Dreamworks, SanRio and others. Attended licensing conventions, and traveled to Disney and Marvel headquarters to discuss property and brand alignment. Participated in contract negotiation meetings and made recommendations for category expansion across licensors. Gained a thorough understanding of youth product specifications, potential hazards, testing, and safety standards.
