Shaina O. Thompson received her start at the Legal Aid Society of Middle TN and the Cumberlands (LAS) and eventually became Lead Family Law Attorney after serving as the Civil Legal Advocate Program Assistant Coordinator. During her time at LAS, she worked as a Guardian Ad Litem in Federal District Court for a Hague Convention Case, and she helped to prevent a child from being returned to an abusive parent overseas. As the Civil Legal Advocacy Program Coordinator, her duties included meeting grant obligations; training pro bono attorneys and advocates; supervising intake specialists; ensuring tasks were met; and being available to guide, assist, and encourage those working in the program. She conducted community outreach on several occasions, spoke on behalf of LAS on cases related to domestic violence in Nashville, and formed relationships with the local Judges and clerks.
