As a high school teacher, I was responsible for teaching British Columbia curriculum English courses and the Grade 12 Yearbook course. The past two years have been a great opportunity to develop strong literacy skills within Maple Leaf's Chinese-national students through emphasis on narrative writing skills and reading. A primary focus of mine these past two years was on student centred learning and creating a paperless classroom. I have utilised a variety of digital media and social networking in order to enhance my classroom experience, and have students take learning into their own hands, such as: Classcraft, Edmodo, Blogging, Quizlet, and Microsoft Office 365. Use of OneNote allowed immersive and student centred activities to take place in class, especially with the class notebooks, which included: blog entries and a "living notebook" which enabled high achievers to help their classmates and receive both academic and social rewards.A constant challenge in the ESL classroom is bringing incentive to learning a second language and use it to analyse texts critically. A focus in my class is to reach out to extrinsic learners through use of gamification and social media. Much of my teaching philosophy involves "living in the world my students do". Creating an environment where the successful use of technology is both rewarding academically and socially is crucial in my methods of developing student rapport and academic honesty.

As a grade 4 teacher, I was responsible for effectively utilizing Common CORE curriculum to teach students Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. Using scaffolding techniques and UBDs (Units by Design) I was able to effectively deliver the curriculum as well as portray the schools vision in class through ESLRs (Expected Student Learning Results). I strictly follow the practice of allowing a students achievement to be reflected by their best, most recent and consistent work - a trait that has carried on with me through Ontario's Growing Success Document. Along with constructive use of technology in the classroom, including social media and web apps, I am able to create effective interactive classroom experiences for my students.
