Before moving to Portland, I was employed at Motivational Services. I worked in a role where I specialized in working directly with residents of a group home who have been found not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder, supporting them in gaining new skills to be able to safely reintegrate into the community. This job also required proficiency with the entirely of the microsoft office suite, documentation for legal forms, and regularly interacting with external providers. I was also given the additional tasks of being a Health and Safety Officer for my home program, the activities coordinator for my program (which involves handling funds for the agency and scheduling community activities), and was often asked to support the IT department with troubleshooting problems in Microsoft Excel documents. Within two years of achieving this position I was given the title of senior staff, making me responsible for working directly with the supervisory team, assisting in training new staff, and acting as a go-to person for other direct care staff. I also achieved my MHRT-C certification at this time, necessary for working in several positions relating to Section 17 services.
