It is so easy to daydream about other people’s lives. It’s in our nature to close our eyes and imagine ourselves as a famous artist singing in front of crowds of people, traveling the world with nothing but a camera, or even just lounging in a lavish apartment looking over a city. Regardless of what it is you think about to escape, there's reasons not all of our lives turn out how we would think. Whether it's a passion for the arts, a desire to teach, or an innate skill in public communication we are all drawn towards something. Me? I want to be a doctor. I love working with people and helping them, improving their quality of life, especially with kids. I do what I do because I love it, even if it’s challenging.That isn’t to say I haven’t done a lot of different things, because I certainly have. I’ve worked on a farm, remodeled homes, trimmed trees, waited tables, worked in a kitchen, worked in retail, ran summer programs, and studied mouse models. All things I've enjoyed, all things I’ll never regret doing. But it wasn’t until I worked in a clinic that I was sure I wanted to be a doctor. Following my undergraduate studies I worked for the Allergy and Asthma Associates of Northern California as a medical technician, a position that is essentially a MA without the certification. There I worked closely with physicians, patients, and all manner of healthcare professionals. And while I had always held onto the desire to help people it was there where I found out HOW I want to help people. There was never a dull moment, and it was never not rewarding. As I continue on my Journey towards a medical degree I am constantly looking for new things to try. I feel that there is nothing more valuable than experiences, not only experiences in your designated field but also in areas you would never expect to try out. New experiences and skills can always be applied to what we’re pursuing.
