I have just commenced as an Ethics Solicitor in Queensland Law Society's Ethics Centre. This role involves providing proactive ethical guidance for lawyers through generating updates, articles and CPD presentations, as well as giving bespoke advice on ethics issues to members as required. Before commencing my Ethics role I held the role of Manager Advocacy and Policy/Senior Policy Advisor with the Society. This role involved being an advocate for lawyers and the legal profession in various arenas, as well as prosecuting the Society's policy agenda, as informed by QLS committees and members.Prior to this I was Manager of the Legal Services Branch of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (formerly the Queensland Building Services Authority) for a period of 8 years, a role which involved extensive advocacy in numerous courts and tribunals, as well as managing a team of 15 lawyers and six support staff. Before becoming manager was a Legal Officer with the Authority, involved in high-volume and complex advocacy and advice work.Prior to this I spent seven years in an in-house counsel role in local government, which followed five years in private practice. I have over 20 years' experience as a solicitor and have specialised in administrative law and building and construction law for over a decade.I am a former Chair of the Queensland Law Society's Government Lawyers Committee and publish a regular column in Proctor, the Queensland Law Society journal.
