After studying Mathematics for years, I recognized I acquired the skill of understanding the language of Mathematics and relating those concepts to real life making explaining these concepts to others quite simple. Therefore, after trying my hand in the accounting world I felt that I would be of better service as a Mathematics teacher. After a few years, I went into the Teachers' training course and there I learned more about my craft. After ten years of working as a Secondary School teacher and grading examinations for the Caribbean Examination Council, I left my homeland of Barbados to work in Bermuda where I intended to increase my technological teaching skills, where I fell in love with the island and its citizens. Here, I learned many more skills and with this opportunity, I continued to grow and become a much better teacher. This inspired me to mature as an educator and as I transferred to middle school, I decided to retool and increase my skillset by completing my Masters in Education. Over the years, I believe I have done well for my students and developed a growth mindset for myself, which has ensured my progression. As a teacher, recognizing that you must be a continuous learner is key; learning your students, how they learn best, what they need to learn, as well as, learning researched teaching practices to ensure meaningful skill development for success in the world outside of school.
