I have always been interested in technology, modelling the future and natural hazards. As a child, I never tired of asking questions about the world around me. I loved creating models of things I saw using Legos and carrying out 'science' experiments from my '100 Science Experiments for Children ' with things around the house.I get to measure space for a wide variety of reasons for a wider variety of clients as a Surveyor. I interact directly with clients across a wide socio-economic spectrum. I translate their needs into surveying operations and manage surveying projects from planning and design to execution and satisfaction of client demands. This has allowed me to develop and maintain successful, long-term relationships with engineers, contractors, land developers and attorneys. The real foundation of understanding the risk we face from disasters and the impact of Climate Change is good quality data. Infrastructures which support the interconnectedness of agencies and openness of data aren’t sexy, they aren’t glamourised but data and its availability is a key feature of development. This vision needs to be spread wider in the Caribbean. I am hoping to be able to create a startup, using Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technology, to capture data across the Caribbean. Why? The region is small, and needs high-quality data to help understand environmental processes and disaster impacts, and, at a cost that will make getting answers to questions less challenging to answer.I still have questions. Reach out if you are interested in any of these areas:Application of Geographical Information Science (GIS), disaster risk reduction research, GNSS, traditional surveying, geomatics, remote sensing, photogrammetry, creating geospatial data, GIS application development, hazard mapping, flooding, hydrological modeling, , multi-hazard models, terrain modeling, UAS, data sharing, open data, data licencing, public data.
