Velocity Networks was purchased by WEL Networks Ltd, the private partner behind Ultrafast Fibre. The Velocity team laid the foundation stones of the Ultrafast Fibre business. Over a period of six years, Velocity Networks built one of the earliest open access metro fibre networks in New Zealand. eDay was a one day, annual event where the general public could dispose of electronic waste (TV's, VCR, computers etc) knowing that it would be recycled in a legal and environmentally responsible manner. Months of planning went into each event which included venue acquisition, logistics of collecting & packing 6 shipping containers of e-waste per event and recruiting a large team of volunteers to staff the event on the day.
