In 2004 two types of webhosting were common: cheap and oversold virtual hosting or expensive dedicated hosting. I set about to create an inexpensive good quality option. Dedicated linux servers, firewalls, and load balancers met the needs of a dedicated selection of clients. I focused on providing quality LAMP services and advanced server configurations for a Perl CMS. Additional CPAN modules and advanced image editing tools were provided to meet client needs. I created custom admin scripts and completed client website programming as needed.

The founders of Refractions made me an offer: Produce a Web Map Service (WMS) plugin for Arcview, completion needed by Monday, and we’ll hire you full time. Technical obstacles included Arcview’s lack of HTTP and XML support. I quickly developed the necessary interfaces and completed the project as requested. I went on to maintain and grow a Linux server farm and transform data using FME.
