Scientist (Data Science & High Throughput Automation) At Vertex Pharmaceuticals
CurrentData Science:• Collaborating with our IT groups to bring more data automation workflows and tools to Process Chemistry, Engineering, and MedChem, such as a Global Reactions Informatics Platform where all Vertex chemical reactions internal and external can be searched in one place and exported for use by scientists or for machine learning.• Taking over the ownership role for an EDBO program so we can continue to evaluate it's usages in Medchem/Process chemistry.• Designing and implementing a more templated procedure section of our ELN experiments to enable machine reading of our experiment designs and outcomes. Moving away from paragraphs of text for procedures towards tables of steps and unit operations.• Supporting the future inventory system by developing a Python Tkinter program that prints standardized labels in lab and will be integrated with our ELN.Process Safety Engineering:• Designing and implementing a new flexible process safety workflow for a rapidly expanding company and pipeline• Automating and integrating data analysis into the ELN (IDBS) to greatly reduce analysis time• Developing a system to automatically generate 80% of a process safety assessment by exporting and formatting data from ELN to greatly reduce report generation timeHigh Throughput Automation:• Created a high throughput automation design excel tool that exceeds the capabilities of current technology available on the market which normally cost millions and years of development. The tool automates the workflow and can halve the time a scientist spends designing and analyzing screens, all while organizing the results to be database ready so it can be used to improve chemistry across the company.• Screening high throughput experiments to deliver improved reaction routes/conditions and reaction understanding.• Flexing into other roles as projects require or as interest exists
