My passion lies in providing access to communication for individuals who may be non-speaking or partially speaking. I believe that communication is essential to relationships and human connection and any means of expression is valid and should be honored. I support school teams in providing multi-modal options for expression including speech-generating devices, communication boards, conventional gestures/signs as well as speech. Another passion of mine is literacy. For our students with complex needs, robust literacy exposure and instruction often falls by the wayside as time and energy must be spent to address significant medical, behavioral and sensory needs. Students often progress in the educational system without adequate instruction and find themselves in secondary school before skills are established. Educational focus then switches to "life skills" to prepare them for life beyond school. I believe that literacy is the most functional life skill we can teach and am passionate about providing communication access so students can learn to read at any grade level.
