Protecting critically endangered African penguins has been the most rewarding role of my career. I take the work, but not myself, seriously. Partnering with passionate individuals and organizations to prevent a species from disappearing is an indescribable joy and the most challenging endeavor I've ever undertaken.KruShan Foundation is the only U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit exclusively dedicated to saving critically endangered African penguins from extinction in the wild. Our strong partnerships allow us to respond in real time to the needs of these adorable and important penguins.Although we are based in the United States, we don’t work in a building, having never seen the animals we are protecting. Our commitment involves frequent trips to South Africa, where our Co-founder, Kruger du Plessis, was raised. These visits to African penguin colonies and our collaboration with local partners and rangers ensure we stay informed about the plight of African penguins and the most effective ways to protect them.Since 2013, we’ve been fervent advocates for conservation.
