The role coordinates, develops and delivers, programs and processes to enhance the operational capabilities of the NSW RFS, and support operational management to better protect the community from bush fire and other emergencies.The role coordinates functions and duties within the Response and Coordination unit which comprises the following areas, Operational Response, Operational Support, Emergency Management, Operational Performance, and Operational Capability.

Implementing and monitoring a range of projects, activities or initiatives for RFS Districts in the Region. Typically these included projects, activities or initiatives relating to one or more of the following areas, according to relative workload and the specific expertise and experience of the officer concerned:• Hazard management, development control, community engagement and pre-incident planning.• Workforce planning, health and safety, learning and development, and brigade management.• Appliances and equipment, stations and buildings, equipment maintenance systems and resource allocation.• Business planning, policy and compliance, financial management and business administrationWhen needed, lead or participate in activities to protect the community from fire and similar incidents within the scope of the qualifications held.Mentor assisting regional staff and relevant district staff.Complete the above activities in accordance with the relevant personal work plan.Exercise due diligence in regard to duties and obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act and associated legislation.

The primary purpose of this role has been to provide oversight and guidance to RFS Districts to ensure the management of human resources, finance and business planning and reporting functions are compliant with organisational and legislative requirements.Key accountability have included1. Manage resources, budget, assets and projects relating to business planning, finance, and human resourcesmatters (including workforce planning, learning and development, and work, health and safety) so that outcomesare achieved to the required standard.2. Coordinating staff efforts in an environment where there is a high volume of work, strict deadlines and issues thatare contentious and sensitive, so work is managed consistently, appropriately and effectively.3. Conduct budget analysis and prepare for, and participate in, budget negotiations so budget bids are supported andfunds are allocated in accordance with priorities.4. Monitor the expenditure of the relevant section/Region budget, and oversee relevant section/District expenditure,budget transfer and carry over requests to ensure that funds are managed in accordance with guidelines.5. Manage and develop staff to undertake changing roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to provide forsuccession planning with the business area.

Coordinating the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) responses to audits required by legislation or other similar authority, Coroner’s Inquests and similar inquiries, and legal proceedings or similar matters.This has involved the: - Provision of advice and support to members engaged in inquiries or legal processes arising from RFS activities.- Coordinating the response to individual audit, inquiry and legal matters, and the provision of information needed by RFS legal teams, or subpoenas or requested by appropriate authorities such as the Coroner or NSW Police Force.- Coordinating the follow-up arising from audits, inquiries or similar and maintained accurate records and required registers in connection with the audit, inquiry and legal matters.- Coordinating the provision of training for members who are to give evidence in court, consistent with L&D Systems’ requirements. Provision of official documents in connection with audit, inquiry and legal matters.

Provide liaison, coordination and support for Coronial Inquests, Litigation, Inquires, and Auditing services within NSW Rural Fire Service.
