Pattern MakerSpanjian Sportswear Jan 1984 - Jun 1985San Marcos, CaI met with the design team to look at sketches for a new sportswear product. I created the initial pattern, found sample fabric, cut out the garment and worked with a specialized sewer to create a TEST garment which was presented on a human model to the design team for review. Based on their comments (wider strap, longer hem, etc.) I reworked the pattern, altered or created a new test garment, and had it resown, revisited the design team , etc., until we had the "go ahead" to next phase.Simultaneously, I worked with the Industrial Engineers who "timed" the sewing of each segment for the design, determining costs for the final product. The final pattern I developed was either hand-graded (all sizes laid out) and digitized into a computer program which allowed us to print out the pattern for the "cutters." They eventually cut this piece from large stacks of fabric and it went into production.Pieces were divided up based on the production process and sewers constructed the garments.*DeLong Sportswear bought Spanjien Sportswear, and they are no longer in San Marcos.
