Speedloan trades as Albemarle & Bond/Herbert Brown Jewellers & Pawnbrokers. It is one of the UK’s largest pawnbrokers in the UK. I initially came on a short term contract to assist CFO on project work as Project & Finance Manager. The project was supporting the renegotiation and transfer of 120 leases from the administrator, though I took over full responsibility for this shortly after. The second was to support the Finance function in installing new reconciliations, controls and robust procedures into a new team that had recently taken over the accounting function. In March 2015 I was offered a permanent split role which included responsibility for the Property Team whist still continuing to support the Finance function. In May of the same year I also took over responsibility for group wide Health & Safety. In April 2016 I took on the additional responsibility for an MI & analyst team.Key deliverables in my two years at Speedloan Finance• Implemented a new PDQ, bullion & Western Union reconciliation process, the later identifying staff fraud within its first month.• Took over the annual stock take process and associated write down and Exco. summary report for the 114 branches covering c. £25m of stock and pledge items.• Cleaned up the pledge database which had £0.75m of archaic pledges which were causing significant accounting and MI issues.• Supported the Finance team post administration in ensuring all balance sheet accounts were fully reconciled with supporting schedules. Post administration following the transfer of the finance function and lack or resources, there were serious financial failings the needed to be addressed.• Took over full responsibility & management of H&S and implemented a number of new initiatives covering ‘Grey fleet’, Signage PPM, & an Asbestos management programme.• Built new branch budget model for all branches.
