The Vice President of Engineering is a member of the Executive Team who works with the President in the development of strategic plans for the company. Responsible for direction, strategy, planning and execution for the company’s production technology including manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering and calibration, capacity planning, cycle time, product integrity, and facilities management. Nye is a company which formulates, manufactures, markets and sells high-quality synthetic lubricants, thermal coupling compounds, and index-matching optical gels. Nye services automotive, in-vacuum manufacturing, computer printer, disc drive, appliance, aerospace, defense, medical device, photonic markets and industrial maintenance lubricants for incidental food contact, high temperature and extreme environments, carefully engineered materials, formulated for specific application.• Develop the company’s manufacturing technology in alignment with corporate objectives and executive team strategies. • Work with the executive team to build a technically competent and flexible manufacturing capability utilizing LEAN manufacturing principles.• Take a lead role in developmental engineering of new manufacturing techniques, including high-efficiency mixing, blending and thickener technologies.• Research, pilot and validate new and innovative equipment technologies for all aspects of manufacturing, packaging, production flow and facilities.• Support site qualification, process validation, technology transfer, and scale up, including hands-on manufacturing oversight activities as required.• Optimize process capability through repeatability, quality, cycle time, yield, and capacity to reduce costs and inventory.• Ensure that, as the company grows, manufacturing capacity, capabilities and adjunct functions meet or exceed all regulatory, industry, and customer requirements for cost, quality and responsiveness.

Manage all operations and resources for lubricant-producing chemical manufacturing plan located in Fairhaven, MA. Direct all production, manufacturing engineering, purchasing, and shipping/receiving activities. Supervise, train and evaluate a high performance team of engineers, maintenance mechanics and operators. Manage plant budget of over $ 1 million a year with additional capital projects totaling $500000 to $1 million. Develop personnel requirements, manufacturing policies, technologies and operating procedures. Build and deploy process and operational metrics, within and across operating departments, to monitor and improve performance, quality and efficiency of operations.

Selected as member of top-level leader-based global Strategic Business Unit as sole representative of the Production and Logistics area. The Unit meets monthly to discuss strategic business planning for the petroleum business, as well as annually update the 5-year business plan.Technology Leadership Initiatives Optimized the performance of EP additive for grease application for sulfur content effect on Timken OK lead bearing tests. Utilized statistical methods and nonlinear numerical optimization methods to achieve most concise path forward for application design. Filed and implemented process patent for antiwear additive for factory fill crankcase oil using Molyvan 2000 liquid Organo-molybdenum friction modifier for Japanese customer. Scaled product through to full production. Evaluated potential tolling manufacturer in China for EP grease additive to access the Asian market. Visited refineries and consulted on the technical side of commercial venture. Managed transfer technology initiative in the UK to diminish product barrier for importation and access to European markets. Supervised trial production of a crankcase oil antiwear additive in a UK-based tolling manufacture. Resulted in a successful trial and recognition for outstanding performance from the company president. Created and led commercialization team with R&D to initiate technology transfer, both intra company and inter-company for Molyvan 855 processing, and visited Petro China (customer) refinery to put technical program in process. Designed improved process for Molyvan 855 which will allow for throughput of the sulfur removing product by 5 fold via use of alternative solvent and conversion from batch to continuous operation. This process has the potential of increasing capacity to 30 million pounds utilizing existing equipment with small capital expenditure to increase bulk storage capacity. Currently the manufacturing cost of this product represents 17% of site manufacturing cost.

Managed remediation of 90-acre site. Solely accountable for contractor selection and execution of remediation project. Oversaw environmental reporting of site activities.

Managed capital projects from $1 to $200 million, including contracting/negotiating contracts, budgeting, managing contractors, and scheduling within project plan. Installed 4 new reactors ($2.5 million) and performed site environmental remediation ($200 million).

Managed production of fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediaries including scheduling, budgeting, safety/environmental regulation compliance, quality control, productivity goals, and HR functions. Managed 4 supervisors and 35 union personnel. Oversaw execution of new products to production. Managed 6 reactor trains and produced 30 products.
