Polymer-X Inc. is a spinoff company from University of Maryland and Princeton University. Led by a group of materials scientists and chemical engineers, we are dedicated to developing and deploying innovative electrothermal methods for sustainable chemical manufacturing. Our core technologies are based on two novel inventions, including: (1) electrified programmable heating and quenching (PHQ; Nature, 2022, cover article), and (2) electrified spatiotemporal heating (STH; Nature, 2023). These cutting-edge technologies enable methane conversion to value-added chemicals with record-high selectivity without using any catalyst, as well as turning commodity polyolefin and polyester plastic wastes to fuels or monomers with record-high yields. Additionally, our approach can be applied for upcycling a range of macromolecules and biomass. Our products include fuels (e.g., jet fuel, diesel, gasoline, kerosene, hydrogen, ammonia, etc.), commodity chemicals (e.g., ethylene, BTX, ammonia, hydrogen) and electrified reactors that can be used for modular-scale and distributed chemical manufacturing.
