Dr. Shaun Travers (he/his/him) is a Campus Diversity Officer and Director of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center at the University of California, San Diego, serving UC San Diego's LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff and alumni. Those that are marginalized under interlocking and systemic forms of oppression are the nexus of his work, with deep commitment to those that are most marginalized within the LGBTQIA+ community, transgender women and femmes of color, including Black and Indigenous communities, and nonbinary people. Under Dr. Travers leadership, the campus and the Center have consistently ranked in the top 20 in the nation. An active representative of the bisexual community, he has presented at the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity, the NASPA Multicultural Institute, and numerous trainings on campus and throughout the country. As a Campus Diversity Officer at UC San Diego he has co-led the Undergraduate Diversity Leadership Institute, the Building Communities for Social Justice Practice Institute, Anti-Racist Practice Leadership groups, LEAD Fellows, and the Culturally Competent Management Program through Human Resources. His current practice and leadership involves a deep understanding of intersectionality, power, privilege, oppression and the dynamic tension inherent in university environments.With significant experience in governance of non-profits, Dr. Travers currently chairs the San Diego LGBT Community Leadership Council, a county-wide Council consisting of the board and staff members and appointed representatives who lead our more than 40 LGBTQIA+ and allied community groups, organizations and non-profits. As a Principal Consultant for DTW Consulting, Dr. Travers has trained and presented to students leaders, staff and senior management on issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion in higher education. He has worked with Harvard College, Washington University in St. Louis, Cuyamaca College, and Palomar College, as well as providing one on one consultations with colleagues throughout the nation.Dr. Travers chaired and co-chaired the Board of Directors for the San Diego LGBT Community Center from 2009-2013, and served on the Board for over 15 years. He has served as Vice President of the congregation at First Lutheran Church San Diego, has served on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, and the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross – Brazos Valley Texas.
