Work with clients and provide them with information and tools necessary to eliminate, control, or minimize preventable losses resulting in claims. A loss control specialist works to maintain a good working relationship with clients and employees of our agency. Counsel clients on risk management best practices by utilizing our Standards of Participation (SOP) program. Review annual loss control evaluations submitted by our clients for participation in our SOP program to determine their current efforts with risk management. In order to pinpoint claim frequencies specific to each client, Specialists research client loss histories for trends and patterns, perform critical thinking and problem solving techniques to determine actual “Root Cause” of claims, and communicate such to the client during a consultation visit. Specialists strive to educate clients regarding the basic concepts of risk management by helping them to develop proper policies and procedures, as well as, provide educational outreach training in hopes of lowering frequency and severity of future preventable claims. The overall goal is to assist clients with managing their insurable risks to prevent and control insurance claims.

Provide protection for the community through investigation, control, and supervision of offenders when they are released on parole. This is accomplished though surveillance of offenders in the community and by enforcing West Virginia Codes. Surveillance of the offender entails investigation of the offender while he or she is under the jurisdiction of the Division of Corrections. Such surveillance and investigation frequently involved regular visits to high crime areas to contact offenders. Represent the Division of Corrections by requesting probation or parole warrants and giving testimony at violation hearings. Provided counseling and guidance of offenders for reentry into society and when appropriate requesting early termination of supervision when appropriate. Maintain confidentiality of records and reports concerning offenders and provided public education and clarification of Division of Corrections’ goals to the general public, the court, victims, law enforcement and other agencies who deal with offenders.

Work directly with correctional center staff and inmates to provide or supervise all religious services. Work with all faiths to ensure they have opportunity to practice their faith working within the operational guidelines of the West Virginia Department of Corrections policies. Provide supervision of inmate custodial workers assigned to the chaplain’s office. Work within the Correctional center to provide inmates with spiritual guidance. In the event of an inmate’s family member passing, provide comfort and assist in the process for the inmate to have the opportunity to have a private viewing. Receive calls from family members of inmates. Work with the institution’s staff in strategic planning of programs

Directed daily operations, including comprehensive financial management, internal division leadership, Human Resources, and IT functions.
