After an exciting career in aviation operations, I decided to return to school and pursue a new challenge in the community pharmacy arena, beginning in 2002 as a pharmacy technician. My ability to adapt and apply has helped me in many ways in my new position, as anyone in community pharmacy can relate. Challenges arise daily, and may assume the identity of a sick patient who would rather be home, an uncooperative insurance company, or a physician not sending the prescription in a timely manner, or the prescription sent is incomplete, or has diagnosis/dosage issues which require the pharmacist to pursue clarification. I have seen just about everything that can disrupt an orderly workflow as we work to get the necessary medication in the patients hands. The totality of my career experience, from a technician, to relief/float pharmacist, to manager, has allowed me to successfully navigate any issue that may arise during the daily operation of a retail pharmacy. I am confident in my abilities to handle any and all situations in a professional manner for a positive outcome. My experience also enhances my co-workers abilities in regards to being able to train and educate them in unfamiliar situations that may come up in the day to day routine. I am certain my staff knows they can rely on me for a solution to any problem they may have, and the teamwork we exhibit gives our patients confidence in our abilities to ensure their needs are being met.At this stage in my career, I am leaning towards finding a new challenge in the pharmacy world. I would like the ability to work remotely, as I would enjoy the freedom to be able to move around the country while at the same time having a fulfilling career that can impact peoples live in a meaningful manner. If you have an opportunity, please reach out and lets have a discussion. I can assure you that what I may lack in required experience of a new position will be met head on. I get the job done, and you will not be disappointed in the results.Sincerely,Shawn K Smart, PharmD
