I have been actively conducting biomedical research for over 15 years, seven of which are post-terminal degree. My present and previous research has focused broadly on cardiovascular development and disease through several, self-initiated lines of inquiry, which were managed simultaneously. Previously, I investigated the roles of the ECM in angiogenesis and the molecular mechanism(s) of lymphangiogenesis, both requisite for cancer progression and metastasis. Throughout these studies, I have had the opportunity to foster my management skills by training technicians, graduate students and a clinical fellow in the laboratory in addition to organizing and managing a department-wide, year-round journal club for more than 50 researchers and clinicians.Throughout my career, I have successfully conveyed novel research findings to fellow scholars at over a dozen meetings and seminars, for which I received four different presentation awards, as well as explained the basics of Pharmacology and embryogenesis to a class of ~20 first year medical students at the International University of Health Sciences (IUHS) on a weekly basis. Further, I have developed my written skills by reviewing colleagues’ papers, grants and personal statements, writing for and receiving funding for my own research, publishing several journal articles, and working as an editorial intern with the Journal of Clinical Investigation, as well as an ad hoc reviewer for a number of journals. Finally, I am familiar with the pathway from discovery to market through personal experiences with a provisional patent I held based on my thesis work in addition to formal coursework.Specialties: Mouse husbandry; Vivisection; Bone marrow isolation and transplantation; transgenic and knock-out mice; High-throughput screening methodologies, design and implementation; Primary cell isolation and propagation; Fluorescent, bright field and phase contrast microscopy; Mammalian cell culture; RT-PCR; PCR; Immunohistochemistry; Western blotting; Flow cytometry: BD Facscalibur, Canto and LSR II (8-color); 5’ RACE; cloning; Mammalian cell transfection; Collagen I isolation and purification
