I was offered a position to stay on the project as an Environmental Graduate. Which I had the privilege of gaining more experience and was given a project to lead. Couple of months in, I was seconded to work in the Sustainability team working on Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) rating.

Began my internship in the Environmental team under the guidance of Xenia Meier. Had the opportunity to learn what it was like to work on an infrastructure project, better yet the largest in NZ.

In November 2020, I was blessed to be part of the Tupu Tai Internship Programme 2020/21, as part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. I was lucky enough to be partnered with the Ministry for the Environment in Wellington over the summer. By being placed within the OCE office, I was able to gain experience within the public service and focus on important environmental issues that were and still are affecting all of New Zealand, especially Maori and Pasifika whanau. Alongside my fellow Tupu Tai interns, it was decided that ocean warming and acidification would be focused on as our policy project. With each person being assigned a part, I was responsible for gathering and analysing scientific data, forming youth engagement recommendations for our piece of advice and forming diagrams and slides for presentation. As a final result, a research report and advice in the form of a memo was formed and submitted through to our manager and buddy by a set deadline. The report was peer reviewed and the advice was sent to Chief Executive, Vicky Robertson, after being reviewed by our manager. We ended off our internship by presenting our data and findings to the OCE team, manager, buddy and other members within the Ministry. As Pasifika people and interns, we presented our work by incorporating our pasifika values. Overall, I received excellent feedback on my work outcomes, capabilities and skills and gained a strong interest in helping to achieve great results for the companies I work with.On March 28th, we had our Tupu Tai Internship Programme 2020/21 graduation ceremony where we were awarded with the completion of our interns by Hon Aupito William Sio, in front of the presence of our family, managers and leaders and tutors. During the AUT Edge Award 2020, I was lucky enough to be part of an awesome organistion such as Mercy Ships. I decided to apply for Mercy Ships because of their strive to provide international health care in countries such as Africa. Just like its name, Mercy ships was a ship with volunteer nurses, engineers, teachers etc. which provided abroad to help the less fortunate. I was a Data Researcher for Mercy ships, to create a database of churches across New Zealand. Reminded our customers of the health and safety rules that were put in place to prevent any hazards while using the facility. Carried out monthly check ups with our customers that were 65 years or over (most vulnerable). Effectively communicated within my team as well as other teams in the Centre. Not one day was the same. In addition to working as a Customer Support Representative at the Papatoetoe Centennial Pools, I was a Lifeguard on stand-by when a staff member was needed. I picked up extra shifts over the holidays (most busy) and filled in when needed even during my break times.

The Moana-nui-a-kiwa pools and leisure Centre was based at the heart of Mangere - my home town full of diverse cultures and people. Not one day was the same during the summer period. Although each day was packed filled with a large number of families, it was important that as a Lifeguard I was alert and ready for each shift. I ensured clear and concise communication between managers and team leaders as well as across the team. Fortunately, I was able to speak with members of my community and understand the reality of what goes on around the neighborhood.
